What is Ultherapy®?

Ultherapy® is a non-surgical and non-invasive treatment that uses High Intensity Focused Ultrasound energy to lift, tighten and firm the face and neck. It causes deep tissue heating without disturbing the surface of the skin. As a result of this heating process, the tissues undergo ‘remodelling’ which leads to new collagen formation that supports and firms up the underlying tissues, with consequent tightening of the skin and lifting the saggy areas.

How does Ultherapy® Work?

Ultherapy® specifically targets the deep foundation below the skin without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. It uses ultrasound imaging which allows the doctors to see the layers of tissue that they are targeting during the treatment and ensures that the energy is deposited precisely to where it will be most effective. This targeting of the underlying tissues prompts cell renewal beneath the skin by producing more elastin and collagen thus restoring the skin’s firm foundation through rejuvenating and tightening of the skin.

A full face treatment takes about 45 minutes, and a partial face or brow lift treatment can take about 15 – 30 minutes.

Is Ultherapy® painful?

Comfort thresholds vary from patient to patient, but there can be some discomfort while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. This is temporary and it serves as a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated.

How many treatments do I require?

The majority of patients only need one treatment to see visible results after the treatment. However, some may benefit from more than one treatment depending on the degree of skin laxity that they suffer from and on their body’s own biological response to the ultrasound and collagen building process.

Is there any downtime?

Most patients have no downtime after the treatment. They are able to return to normal activities right after the procedure. Occasionally, some patients have slight redness, focal mild swelling, tingling sensation, or tenderness to touch on the treated areas, but these are mild and temporary in nature.
